Which do you think can better support life, warm water or cool water? It is no surprise that

many people will choose warm water because many of us have enjoyed the beauty of a tropical ocean.

Swimming in a warm tropical ocean, we often marvel at the sparkling clear water and the abundance

of marine life. But can you believe that cool waters are in fact more fertile than warm waters?

Compared with cool waters, warm waters are usually clean and clear because they lack nutrients.

Waters containing few nutrients cannot support much life. On the other hand, cool waters are rich in

nutrients flowed in from rivers or churned up from the ocean floors. Therefore, they are usually

muddy and murky, and are suitable for plankton to live in. Once the sun shines on the nutrient-filled

waters, plankton will start to multiply at an amazing speed. Then the cycle begins. Plankton feeds

tiny marine animals, and they in turn feed larger fish, which then can satisfy still larger fish, and thus

the food chains continue. Thats the reason why the bodies of water with the most fish usually lie in

the northern regions or off the southern coast of South America.

( )31. In which field would this passage most likely appear?

(A) 文學。

(A)為正解。

Body language, consisting of gestures, body postures, and facial expressions, is a way people

use to communicate with one another. Many psychologists have proved that human beings usually

send and interpret nonverbal signals subconsciously. Dr. Albert Mehrabian also points out that for

total communication, words account for 7%, tone of voice accounts for 38%, and body language

accounts for 55%. Nonverbal elements are particularly important for communicating feelings and

attitude. For example, if there is something unclear during a conversation, people tend to rely on

tones and nonverbal behavior to understand whats going on. In other words, body language plays

an important role in everyday communication.

A recent survey conducted in England shows that on average, people will use body language

four times a day. In addition, people who use hand gestures while talking are usually good at

negotiation and communication. For example, politicians like to make hand gestures while

delivering speeches to strengthen their points. Besides, many bosses say that their first impressions

of others mainly depend on visual messages; that is, nonverbal signals will decide whether a person

has a better chance of getting close to those in higher positions.
