General Topic: Writing Class for Grade 11
Objectives: To enhance students’ understaning of the use of modifiers and the four sentence structures,
including simple, compound, complex, compound-complex sentences.
To improve students’ basic writing skills
To polish students’ revision skills
To increase students’ confidence in English writing
Session Topic: Sentence Making in SVO pattern
Duration: 2 hrs
Materials: worksheet, rubrics for grammar checking, a pack of tack
Procedure:
1. Preparotary
1-1. Pass down workshees of compositions. Explain one of the basic patterns: S+V+O and let students make five sentences.
Two students in a group exchange and revise each other’s sentences.
1-2. Explain the usage of adjectives and adverbs, and then practice lengthening the original sentences.
Two students in a group proofread each other’s work.
1-3. Practice adding locations and time and then do proofread for teammates.
2. Presenation:
2-1. Give students four story pictures and ask them to write at least one sentence for each picture. 2-2. After finishing their composition, they have to do revision for another five minutes with rubrics for reference.
2-3. All the compositions will be pasted on the wall around the classrom. Students will have to give comments on three of others’ works and sign their names on it.
3. Assessment:
sentence-making work 25%, revision for sentence making 25%, story writing 30%, feedback for story writing 20%
4. Assignment:
Write a paragraph of self-introduction, which includes family background, hobby, specialty, personality, merits and flaws. Use red pens to do revision.
